[FOOD • 4 • THOUGHT]

"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."

*Bom•Chick•A•Wah•Wah* - Summer Trends of 2010 & My Thoughts On Em. VOLUME I

Aaaaah...the warm weather is FINALLY here and with warm weather comes NEW fashion trends to spark the runway and enrich the dull colors of our winter wardrobes. Today I'm gonna share some of the fashion trends this spring and summer are offering && THERE'S A TWIST...My commentary on each of them lol (the good, the bad & the oh so ugly). Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to express my OPINIONS haha...READY?!...Lets Gooooo!!

• TREND #1: HEAVY GEOMETRIC & ANIMAL PRINTS

Everything from dresses, rompers and sweaters to fitted pants and leggings are coming in bold and edgy geometric patterns and animal prints. Stripe patterns are still definitely in, but not in their usual horizontal and vertical form. Stripes are taking on more of an optical illusion look, twisted and stacked on top of each other. Heavy printed geometric and animal leggings are going to be muy caliente for summer!

• TREND #2: FEATHERS

Feathers Feathers Feathers!!! Feathered dresses, skirts and earrings are about to turn the volume all the way up this summer. As expected, the summer will bring out the skin, so be ready to see feathers mostly in the mini...mini skirts and dresses. Most of the feather you'll see will come in neutral tones, so if it's a skirt your wearing, maybe pair it up with a neutral colored top and try to keep it simple.

• TREND #3: NEUTRAL COLORS

Neutral colors are ones which coordinate well with most other colors (beige, browns, black, greys and white). They create an earthy and wonderful elegant barely there look. Neutral colors are no stranger to being in the latest fashion trends they have been quite popular for the last decade...Classic!!

• TREND #4: SHORT SHORTS

WHO LOVES SHORT SHORTS?! (remember that old Nair commercial hahahaha). Anyway...boy shorts and hot pants (that's what my mama calls all shorts lol) are making this summer all about them legs baby!!! Shorts have and always will be fun fun fun...You can pair them with stilettos for a sexy chic look, with knee high socks for the school girl look, or just rock em with simple flip flops, flats or tennis shoe for that casual and pulled together look. THE SKY'S THE LIMIT!! But a word of advice, too short is NO BUENO. There's a fine line between looking sexy and leaving little to the imagination.

• TREND #5: BLAZERS & VESTS

Blazers and vests are still rockin the runway, but now they're paired with skirts, leggings, and shorts. And watch out cause BIG SHOULDERS are coming back with a vengeance...the 80s are now officially back and bigger then ever. Blazers and vests should be accessorized with feminine, girly and frilly things to tone down the masculinity, so having fun playing with the style.

Man-O-Man, there are so many more FANTASTIC TRENDS for Summer 2010, but I'm half starved and about to make dinner. Look out for my blog tomorrow, *Bom•Chick•A•Wah•Wah* - Summer Trends of 2010 & My Thoughts On Em. VOLUME II, where I'll continue to break down the hottest trends of the season. Hope you enjoyed Lovies.

LIFE: to want, to have, and to do.

Lately I've been so so enamored with life and the blessings that God has blessed me with. My mind is constantly taking in the overwhelming beauty of the world around me. I am most richly blessed and I know that am privileged to wake the mornings I wake and to rest the nights I rest. Our Lives...Our Time...Our Families...Our Friends...Our Possessions, they are all gifts, given to us by a Mighty and Loving God. But the gifts given to us by God are more then just simple givings...it's what we do with these gifts, how we spend these gifts that determine the life we lead. We want, We have, We do....Life!!! What defines yours?

Below are some quotes that help put my daily life into perspective. Let me know what think, how you feel and share some of your favorite quotes with me if you'd like...

• "A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills and uses these skills to accomplish his goals."
~ Larry Bird

• "All meaningful and lasting change starts first in your imagination and then works its way out. Imagination is more important than knowledge."
~ Albert Einstein

• "Every morning you are handed 24 golden hours. They are one of the few things in this world that you get free of charge. If you had all the money in the world, you couldnt buy an extra hour. What will you do with this priceless treasure?"
~Unknown

• "For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you'll never walk alone."
~ Audrey Hepburn

• "It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinions; it is easy in solitude to live after your own;
but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd
keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

• "Learning is like rowing upstream:
not to advance is to drop back."
~ Chinese Proverb

• "Dont run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you are going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way."
~Unknown

• "Blessed is the person who sees the need, recognizes the responsibility, and
actively becomes the answer."
~ William A. Ward

• "There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth - not going all the way and not starting."
~ The Buddha

• "People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
... Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
... Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
... Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
... Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
... Build anyway."
~ Mother Teresa's prayers

Thanks for stopping by again to read my pondering. I hope this post finds you blessed. Life...in the good and bad times is still amazingly wonderful. Keep your head up!

"THE HOURS WILL TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES"

I was sitting on my couch earlier editing my blog and listening to my Pandora, when Karina Pasian came on and got me thinking. Thus, My song of the day, Karina Pasian - Slow Motion, has also inspired my thoughts for the moment

Slow Motion by Karina Pasian has to be one of my FAVORITE SONGS ever recorded, because it speaks to the very steps I feel I need to take before moving forward into a relationship with a man.

The verse,

"I know that you've been calling me. And I'm happy that we met. Don't think that I'm not interested...I'm just playing hard to get,"
really emphasizes the way I work a budding relationship. I love the butterflies I feel when I'm getting to know a man that has potential, but I'm also a very cautious woman because of past hurts. I don't show too much emotion at first or allow the man to feel my excitement out of habit & the judgement that I need to guard my heart until I'm certain that the man I'm interested in is worthy of getting to know my heart. Because of the my cautious demeanor...men sometimes think that maybe I'm not interested in them...that I'm playing hard to get. Sometimes they stay and sometimes they walk away.

The second verse,

"You seem to know just what you want and I like you confidence. Somethings a girl should never rush, cause if you do you hurt yourself,"

is almost a mimic synopsis of all my past relationship. You see, I'm a sucker for a man that has a great head on his shoulders, for a man that looks forward and marches on past all his obstacles without blinking an eye. I'm drawn like a magnet to man who knows who he is and what he stands for. GREAT QUALITIES right?! But I've learned in my lifetime that to every pro there is a con...that's just the way life works...and I tend to get so caught up in the obvious pros of a man, that I forget to assess the cons. When Karina sings about waiting, taking a breath and not rushing...it reminds me that it is worth putting in a little extra time to allow the euphoria of the butterflies, sunshine, and rainbows to wear off enough for you to take in the pros and cons of a person and see if you can live with the combination...thus you are to more likely avoid grievous hurt to your heart.

And then there's the Breakdown,

"I'm too young for tears in the night. And it's too soon for this to be right. Don't wanna mess with your pride, the question's not when it's why,"

which brings it all home for me. I deserve to be HAPPY, I deserve to have a man who compliments me, and yes I am absolutely to young to be crying over LOST TIME. Impulsive decisions by far have more consequences then decision made with a clear, calm, and steady mind set. Wanting something or someone isn't wrong, but sometimes the things we want aren't necessarily the things or people we need. For me, taking time gives me the ability to assess the desires of my heart and the needs of my life and see if the two coincide.

As for the hook and the bridge of this song, to me, I feel the two completely sum up the concepts I just wrote on. So with ALL that said lol, I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do...and if not, well the above contents will have at least explained why I enjoy it. *Be Blessed* xoxo.

P.S. "I recommend you take care of the minutes, for the hours will take care of themselves." - Lord Chesterfield...Just a lil extra food for thought. ♥

INSOMNIA: Dreaming Wide Awake

Here I am again, in the same predicament I find myself in every day or night or is it day? lol....plagued by INSOMNIA! My laptop informs me that it is now 4am...it's 4am and the prospect of a good nights sleep has disappeared with the simple pm abbreviation from yesterdays time. Yet I find that in the absence of sleep, am capable of obtaining that which my mother wishes me every night...SWEET DREAMS. You see, I dream wide awake.

I have suffered (for lack of a better word) from insomnia for longer then I can recall. My days fade in to nights and fade back again in to days with all but 2 to 3 hours to easy the transition. But my experiences of dreaming are, to me, EXTRAORDINARY. Suffering from insomnia has aloud me the pleasure of dreaming dreams and watching those dreams come true all at the same time...with no or little sleep enforced "TO BE CONTINUED" clauses to separate my dreams from the eventual realization of those dreams. ((shrugs)) Dreaming wide awake is like watching a hit TV series without the ANNOYING, but sometime refreshing, CLIMACTIC intermission of each individual show. It is a most thrilling experiance and yet at the same time entirely exhausting....Most definitely a gift and a curse. Does that make sense? What are your thoughts? In retrospect, you may be wondering, "Meme, what was the point of sharing this random...slightly entertaining...tid-bit about your insomnatic experiences with dreaming?" & THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION with an equally GREAT ANSWER!! The answer is....I'M AN INSOMNIAC. There is no point, other then the fact that I am wide awake at what is now 4:15am with no one to talk to ((outside of twitter...where I am limited to 140 characters to express myself...which to me is pure tomfoolery...but that is another rant that I will save, for perhaps, another blog post)).

I wish I could end this blog post with a poetic, "I bid you farewell, sleep beckons me," but in reality I'm bidding you farewell because I'm thirsty and the iced tea, that I'm am so DESPERATELY CRAVING, is in the refrigerator down stairs. ha ha. So goodnight/good morning to you, lovies. Be Blessed

Introducing Me!!

I love writing, so I can't wait to share my thoughts with you, but before I throw all my random thoughts your way, please allow me to introduce myself!! ((a drum roll here would be optimal...just to spice things up [shrugs]...but I guess I'll just have to deal))

My name is Meisha Dwight...((I preferably go by Meish or Meme tho)) and I am a student at the University of New Mexico; majoring in Business Management and Broadcast Journalism. I firmly believe that God has created me in His image...so I am...well, EXTRAORDINARY. I am a strong, independent woman of God, who is passionate about everything I do. I know where I'm from and I know where I want to go in life. I absolutely LOVE to SING. Music is one passion I could never live without...it is woven throughout every fiber of my spirit. I am also a SPORT FANATIC!!! I'm practically in love with every sport ever invented and my love for sports is another passion that keeps me overjoyed lol. It would take me YEARS to fully explain all that I am and all that I love...so I hope my blog, my random thoughts - my life lived out in words, will help you gain a better sense of Me.

Sincerely Me,
Meme
